Softball Tames Cougars

The Roughrider softball team improved their ACCAC record to 24-12 with a doubleheader sweep over South Mountain Community College, 7-5 and 12-4. Yavapai now has a 28-15 overall mark.

In the first game, YC only managed 5 hits but South Mountain committed 5 errors to aid in the victory. Hannah Hill led the Roughriders with a 2-run home run and Val Luera also went deep.

Sarah Thompson got the victory in relief of starter Aundria Zuniga-Romero. Thompson threw 4 innings and struck out 2.

YC had an easier time of things in the nightcap pounding out 14 hits. Mita Cortez went 3 for 4 including a walk-off 2-run home run. Brandi Heimburg, Sam Wilson and Taylor Riesgo each had two hits. Cortez and Kasey Oliver each had 3 runs batted in and Brandi Eifert-Pancamo knocked in two runs.

Zuniga-Romero got the complete game victory striking out 9 opponent batters.

Yavapai travels to Chandler-Gilbert Community College on Saturday, April 6th. YC swept a doubleheader over the Coyotes earlier in the season. Saturday twinbill will start at 12:00 PM.
