The Roughrider baseball team swept a pivotal doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Roughrider Park over first place Central Arizona College, 4-3 and 6-5. Yavapai is now 41-10 on the season and 24-10 in the ACCAC standings. Central Arizona falls to 39-13 overall and 25-9 in conference play.

In the first game, YC jumped out to a 3-0 lead after one inning of play. The Vaqueros posted 2 runs in the second inning and 1 run in the third inning to tie the score. Both teams failed to score until Kyle Toth singled home Chris Burks for the extra inning game winner.

Jordan DePonte got the victory on the mound in relief of starting pitcher Peter Lenstrohm who threw seven innings striking out 8 batters and allowing 5 hits. DePonte pitched one inning giving up 1 hit.

Drew Turbin was a perfect 3 for 3 from the plate and Alexis Olmeda was 2 for 4.

In the second game, YC held a 5-0 lead until Central pushed 5 runs across in the sixth inning. YC scored the game winner in their half of the sixth inning on a Vaquero wild pitch.

Stephen Carbajal was 2 for 2 with 2 runs scored and Kamalu Kamoku got the victory from the mound.

The victory keeps Yavapai in third place in the ACCAC Division I standings. Central Arizona falls to second place behind Cochise College (41-11, 27-7). The top four teams advance to the NJCAA Region I playoffs.

Yavapai plays host to the fourth place team South Mountain Community College in the regular season home finale on Tuesday, April 23rd. In February, Yavapai split a doubleheader with the Cougars in Phoenix, 0-3 and 6-1. Tuesday twinbill will start at 12:00 PM.
