Baseball Does The Splits

The Roughrider baseball team split a doubleheader with South Mountain Community College on Tuesday afternoon at Roughrider Park. YC easily won the first game 9-1 and fell in the second game, 14-4. Yavapai is now 42-11 on the year and 25-11 in the ACCAC with 2 games remaining in the regular season. South Mountain has a 35-19 overall mark and 23-13 in the conference standings.

In the opener, Jacob Doyle pitched a gem getting the complete game victory. The University of Arizona transfer scattered 3 hits and struck out one.

Offensively, Tim Arakawa was 3 for 4 with 3 runs scored and 2 runs batted in. Michael Howard was 2 for 3 with 2 doubles and 2 RBI’s. Stephen Carbajal was 2 for 3 with a run scored and one run knocked in.

In the nightcap, the Roughriders offense stalled with only 4 runs on 6 hits. Ryan Petersen took the loss in the run-rule shortened game.

YC concludes the regular season with two single 9-inning games against Eastern Arizona College in Thatcher. YC swept a doubleheader against the Gila Monsters earlier in the season, 10-5 and 13-3.

The NJCAA Region I Division I playoffs will begin on May 2nd with the #4 seed playing at the #1 seed and the #3 seed playing at the #2 seed. The winners will advance to the Region Championship Series beginning May 9th.

YC has secured a playoff spot and is currently the #3 seed 2 games behind Central Arizona College and 3 games behind Cochise College. On Saturday, Central Arizona plays a doubleheader at Cochise College.
