The Roughrider baseball team improved their record to 18-5 on the season with two victories on Wednesday afternoon at Roughrider Park against Williston State College, 17-0, and Indian Hills Community College, 9-6.

In the opener, YC hitting overwhelmed the visiting Tetons with 16 hits including 5 for extra bases. Yavapai scored early and scored often in the run-rule shortened game.

Tim Arakawa and Krysthian Leal each hit home runs and Austin Murphy and Drew Turbin had 3 hits apiece. Leal, Murphy and Kyle Toth all had 3 runs batted in.

Matt Southard picked up his third on the year victory with five innings pitched scattering 2 hits and striking out 5.

In the nightcap, Indian Hills took and early 2-1 lead, but the Roughrider nine responded with two runs in the third and four runs in the fourth to seize the momentum.

Arakawa hit his second homer of the day with a lead off bomb to rightfield. Leal was 4 for 5 with 2 RBI’s. Humberto Aranda was 3 for 4 with 2 ribbies and Arakawa, Tubin and Murphy each had two hits.

Ryan Petersen got the victory from the mound throwing 6 strong innings striking out 6 batters.

YC returns to the diamond for two more games on Thursday, March 14th playing host to Monroe Community College (11:00 AM) and #20 New Mexico Junior College (3:00 PM).
