Riders Sweep; Zuniga-Romero Throws No-No

The Roughrider softball team snapped a 5-game losing streak Saturday afternoon in Phoenix beating GateWay Community College (0-8, 0-8), 12-3 and 11-0. YC is now 8-9 overall and 4-6 in ACCAC action.

Sarah Thompson got the victory from the circle in the opener, throwing all 5 innings. The Chino Valley native allowed 5 hits and struck out 2. Aundria Zuniga-Romero led the Roughriders going 2 for 4 with three runs batted in. Alma Cortez went 2 for 3 with two RBI’s and Val Luera had 2 hits including a triple and one run knocked in.

Zuniga-Romero threw a no-hitter in the nightcap giving up 2 walks. Hannah Hill led the way offensively for the Riders going 2 for 3 with a grand slam and five runs batted in. Brandi Heimburg went 2 for 3.

Yavapai has their home opener on Tuesday, February 19th against Chandler-Gilbert Community College. The first pitch will be at 1:00 PM.
