Hardball Splits With Coyotes

The Roughrider baseball team split a conference doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Chandler-Gilbert Community College (7-7-1, 1-4-1), 1-3 and 5-3. Yavapai improves to 10-3 overall and 3-3 in ACCAC action.

Jacob Doyle, the starting pitcher, took the loss despite giving up only 1 earned run. The YC defense committed 5 errors.

Drew Turbin (1 for 3) scored the lone run for the Roughriders and Aaron Blair (1 for 2) got the RBI.

In the nightcap, Yavapai used a four-run 6th inning to propel them to the victory. Brandon Matthews was 3 for 4 with 2 runs batted in. Tim Arakawa (2 runs, triple, double), Krysthian Leal (1 run, 1 RBI, double), and Aaron Blair (1 run) each had 2 hits.

Starting pitcher Ryan Petersen threw 6.2 innings, striking out 7 to get the victory. Jordan DePonte threw the ninth inning to get the save.

Yavapai returns to the diamond on Tuesday, February 26th against Mesa Community College (11-5). The twinbill will start at 12:00 PM and will be played at Roughrider Park on the campus of Yavapai College in Prescott.
