Riders Sweep Coyotes

The Roughrider softball team evened their conference record at 6-6 with a doubleheader sweep Tuesday afternoon in their home opener beating Chandler-Gilbert Community College, 15-7 and 21-6. YC is now 10-9 overall.

In the opener, YC used 17 hits en route to the victory led by Mita Cortez, Kasey Oliver and Jade Yost who had three hits each. Oliver and Yost had 3 runs batted in a piece.

Aundria Zuniga-Romero got the victory from the circle throwing all six innings and striking out 2 batters.

Yavapai got their best run production in the nightcap posting 9 runs in two different innings. YC hit 4 home runs on the game led by Oliver as she went 4 for 4 with a home run, a double and 7 RBI’s. Sam Wilson, Maria Micheli and Sarah Thompson each went deep.

Thompson went the distance on the mound for the victory.

Yavapai has outscored their opponents, 69-30 in their last 5 games.

Yavapai returns to the diamond on Saturday, February 23rd at Scottsdale Community College. The doubleheader will start at 12:00 PM.
