Softball Beats Top Team

The Roughrider softball team began the 2013 season Friday morning with a 6-5 victory on a Brooke Eifert-Pancoma walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh inning over the NJCAA pre-season #1 ranked team Salt Lake Community College.

YC gave up two runs in the top of the first inning before knotting the score and taking the lead with two runs in the third and two runs in the fourth. Salt Lake cut the lead in half in the top of the fifth and tied the score in their half of the sixth but the Roughriders regained the lead in the bottom of the 6th.

With two outs in the top of the 7th, Salt Lake tied the scored once again and with 1 out in the bottom of the 7th in her only at bat of the game, Eifert-Pancoma launched the game winner to straightaway center.

Brandi Heimburg led the Roughriders offensively going 3 for 3 with 2 runs batted in and a run scored. Aundria Zuniga-Romero went the distance to get her first collegiate victory striking out 7 and giving up only 1 earned run.

YC returns to the diamond later this afternoon against Western Nevada Community College and finish the day against Community College of Southern Nevada.
