Riders Split On Final Day

The Roughrider softball team split both games on the final day of the Kick-off Classic in Las Vegas on Sunday. YC run ruled Colorado Northwestern Community College in the early game, 9-0 and fell in the final game to North Idaho College, 6-4.

Aundria Zuniga-Romero pitched a 1-hitter and struck out 5 for the victory. Brandi Heimburg and Jade Yost each had two hits a piece. Alma Cortez and Kasey Oliver knocked in two runs each.

The Roughriders could not overcome a five-run deficit in the nightcap. After taking a 1-0 lead in the first inning, North Idaho scored 5 runs in the third inning to take the lead which held for the remainder of the game.

Heimburg had the hot bat going 4 for 4. Taylor Riesgo was 1 for 2 with a runs scored and 1 RBI.

Yavapai begins ACCAC play on Tuesday, January 29th at Paradise Valley Community College. The doubleheader will begin at 1:00 PM.
