Former Roughrider Signs With The English Premier League

Former Roughrider and NJCAA Soccer Hall of Famer, Roger Espinoza, has come a long way in a short period of time.

In the past year, the Honduran midfielder went from being an MLS standout to a top international performer with global recognition. His stellar performance in the Olympics – especially against a star-studded Brazil side that featured Neymar – had some hailing him as the best player of the tournament. It was that showcase that led to English Premier League side Wigan Athletic signing Espinoza on a two-and-half-year deal when his MLS current contract expires at the end of the year.

Espinoza played for Yavapai College during the 2005 and 2006 seasons, where he was named to the NJCAA & NSCAA Junior College All-America teams. He lead the Roughriders to a 46-2-3 overall record during his two years at Yavapai. He moved on to Ohio State University and lead the Buckeyes to the 2007 NCAA National Championship Game before being drafted by the Kansas City Wizards, now Sporting Kansas City, of Major League Soccer and had played for the club since 2008.
