Spikers Perfect On Friday

Taking a break from conference play, the Roughrider volleyball team swept a trio of matches Friday at the Scottsdale Community College Tournament. YC began the day with a victory against New Mexico Military Institute, 2-0 (27-25 and 25-19) followed by a three-set win over College of Eastern Utah 2-1 (28-30, 25-17, 15-13) and a non-conference win over Pima Community College 2-1 (24-26, 25-23, 15-9). YC is now 9-2 overall.

In the opening game against NMMI, Natalie Fahey led the lady spikers with 7 kills and 2 aces. Liz Culhane had 5 kills and 1.5 blocks. Taking over for the injured Libby Ary, Becca Long had 18 assists and Hannah Hill had 8 digs.

Versus College of Eastern Utah Fahey continued her stellar play with 13 kills. MacKenzie Hamilton had 7 kills and 10 digs, Long ran the offense with 33 assists and Jordan Lopez had 12 digs.

In the final match of the day against Pima, Casey Johnson had 14 kills and 11 digs, Long had 28 assists and 1 ace and Fahey added 7 kills and 2 aces.

In the final day of the tournament, YC faces Phoenix College and league leader Glendale Community College. On Labor Day, YC beat Phoenix College, 3-0 (25-12, 25-17, 25-17). The matches will start at 9:30 AM and 12:30 PM respectively.
