The Roughrider soccer team defeated Mesa Community College, 3-0 Saturday night in Mesa for their 500th win since the program’s inception in 1989. The Roughriders are now 4-0-0 in 2012 and 500-40-18 all-time. Mesa falls to 2-1-0 on the season.

Besides the 500th win, YC reached another milestone in the history of the program. With the shutout, 300 of Yavapai’s victories have been by shutout. Daniel Sellitti and Agustin Rey combined for the shutout tonight.

Scoring Summary

  • 18th minute – Junior Albon Gbapou assisted by Alex Harlley
  • 57th minute – Julien Dragomir assisted by Alex Harlley
  • 67th minute – Alex Harlley assisted by Kyle Morris

Yavapai’s only head soccer coach Mike Pantalione states, “Tonight’s road victory was special, keeping us at the top of the league standings. This is what we worked for throughout the evening. Regardless, the 500 wins is a great honor for our program and the 400 players that have worn the Roughrider jersey, both past and current, share in this moment. It’s a player’s sport, not a coach’s sport. The accomplishment is a direct result of hard work by the players. There is no magical formula. We have been quite fortunate to say the least. So many people are responsible for the program’s success over the years including Associate Coach Hugh Bell, Assistant Coach Emilio Estrada, our medical and athletic support staff as well as the Yavapai College administration, faculty and staff. Special thanks to our loyal fans, some of which are no longer with us, who have shown their support for our players the past 24 years.”

To go along with the 500 wins, Yavapai College has captured 67 conference, region, district and national championships.

The next home game is the “Prescott Home Opener” at Ken Lindley Field. Kick-off will be at 6:00 PM. Admission is free.
