Soccer Shuts Out Gauchos

The Roughrider soccer team recorded their 499th all-time victory Tuesday night in a tough, physical 2-0 win over Glendale Community College at Rose Mofford Sports Complex in Phoenix, the same site of the Roughriders seventh NJCAA National Championship. YC is now 3-0-0 on the young season and Glendale falls to 1-2-0.

Yavapai broke a scoreless tie in the 68th minute on a penalty kick by Alex Harlley. In the 82nd minute Gouedan Halley took a pass from Jonathan Grant to seal the victory for the locals.

Daniel Sellitti played all ninety minutes in goal to record the shutout, the team’s third consecutive and the program’s 299th all-time.

Yavapai plays at Mesa Community College on Saturday, September 1st looking for the 500th victory in the fabled program’s history. The match will kick-off at 7:00 PM.

The Ken Lindley Field home opener will be on Tuesday, September 4th against GateWay Community College. That match will begin at 6:00 PM.
