Yavapai College Athletic Director Scott Farnsworth announced Thursday the hiring of Terri Knecht as the head coach of the Roughrider softball team. Knecht replaces recently departed interim head coach Lisa Parks. Knecht was one of six finalists that were interviewed for the job. That list included: Candace Abrams (University of Arizona), Rick Church (Blinn College), Mark Ryal (Auburn University), Lana Ross (Iowa Western Community College) and Beth Keylon-Randolph (Chattanooga State Community College).

Knecht, the St. Joseph, Missouri native, brings over 17 years experience as a head coach at the collegiate level where she has an overall coaching record of 597-324-2.

Knecht began her coaching career as an assistant coach at the University of South Carolina followed by a four year stint at Indiana University where she coached USA Olympic Softball Player, Michelle Venturella and helped guide the Hoosiers to the Big Ten Championship in 1994.

From 1995-2002, Knecht was the head coach at Santa Fe Community College in Gainesville, FL where she compiled an overall record of 295-180-2.

Prior to accepting the position at Yavapai, Knecht was the head coach at NAIA affiliate Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) where she led the Bees to the Florida Sun Conference and Region XIV Championship in 2005, 2006 and 2007. During her time in Georgia, she was named conference and region Coach of the Year three times. At the conclusion of the 2011- 2012 academic year, SCAD discontinued their softball, baseball and volleyball programs due to budget constraints.

Knecht inherits a Yavapai program that won the ACCAC DI title in 2008, 2009, 2011 and 2012. In 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011 YC claimed the NJCAA Region I championship and in 2009 and 2011 YC won the NJCAA Division I National Championship. The Roughriders finished this past season with a 57-10 overall mark.

A press conference and “Meet and Greet” reception is scheduled to be held sometime July depending on her availability. Details will be announced and YC softball fans are invited to attend.
