Baseball Advances To Title Series

The Roughrider baseball team 40-18 advanced to the NJCAA Region I Division I Championship Series with a 6-3 victory Friday afternoon over the visiting Matadors from Arizona Western College. YC will face conference nemesis Central Arizona College (45-13) winners of their best-of-three series over Pima Community College 2 games to 0.

Jonathan Rodriguez provided the punch offensively for the Roughrider nine hitting a grand slam and plating five YC runners. Jordan Negrini and Kyle Young each added two hits.

Peter Lenstrohm (8-0) was stellar on mound throwing 8 innings, scattering five hits and striking out four batters. Ryan Petersen threw the final inning to get his first save of the year.

The best-of-three Championship Series will begin on Thursday, May 10th. In four meetings this season with the Vaqueros, YC took three of four games. Thursday and Friday’s games will start at 2:00 PM. If necessary, Saturday’s event will start at 12:00 PM.
