Baseball Hammers El Paso

The Roughrider baseball team propelled themselves into the championship game of the Valley of the Sun Spring Tournament with a 14-4 drubbing of the El Paso Community College Tejanos Friday afternoon in Phoenix. YC is now 19-10 overall. El Paso falls to 6-19 on the season.

The Tejanos took the early 1-0 lead with a lone run in the second inning. YC did not get on the scoreboard until the fourth inning with four runs. The Roughrider nine scored in every inning after that knocking 18 hits on the day.

Austin O`Such led the offensive barrage with four hits, three runs and a run batted in. Jonathan Rodriguez was 3 for 5 with two runs scored and an RBI. Ryan Wagner was 2 for 4 with two runs and three runs batted in. Jordan Negrini was 1 for 4 with two runs and three runs knocked in.

YC swiped six bases on the afternoon with Kyle Young stealing three bases and Tyler Urps snatching two.

Ryan Petersen (3-2) got the victory on the mound pitching seven innings and striking out eight Tejano batters.

Yavapai and El Paso will play on Saturday, March 17th at 10:00 AM at South Mountain Community College for the Valley of the Sun Spring Tournament Championship.
