The Roughrider softball team split a road doubleheader Saturday with Eastern Arizona College. Eastern Arizona won the first game 5-4 and YC took the nightcap 4-2. Yavapai is now 19-4 overall and 8-2 in ACCAC play. EAC is now 13-8 overall and have an 8-2 conference mark.
In the first game, Yavapai found themselves down 3-0 top of the seventh inning. Brandi Heimburg hit a three-run home run to even the game up and the next batter, Ashleigh Seipel, knocked a solo home run to take the lead. However, their half of the seventh inning, the first Gila Monster batter walked and the following hitter hit a walk-off home run to gain the victory..
Estela Pinon took the loss in the first game surrendering all five runs in seven innings pitched. Heimburg was 3 for 4 with three runs batted in. Taylor Riesgo was a perfect 3 for 3 with a run scored and a stolen base.
In the late game, Mel Willadsen earned the complete-game 7-hit victory. Pinon and Alexis Lawton each had two hits including a home run. Riesgo was 2 for 4.
Yavapai continues conference play on Tuesday, February 21st at Central Arizona College. The first pitch will be thrown at 2:00 PM.
