Softball Cuts Hearts Out Of `Chokes

The #1 ranked Roughrider softball team swept a Saturday doubleheader in dominating fashion beating the Artichokes from Scottsdale Community College, 13-1 and 15-0. Yavapai improves to 16-3 overall and 5-1 in ACCAC play.

Mel Willadsen got the victory in game one throwing four innings, string out 2 and scattering 3 hits. Kat Macias threw the final inning striking out all three batters.

Offensively, Ashleigh Seipel was a perfect 3 for 3 with four RBI’s and and a home run. Brittany McCray had four runs batted in on a pinch hit homer. Alma Cortez, Brandi Heimburg and Estela Pinon each had two hits.

In the nightcap, Estela Pinon got the complete game no-hit victory striking out 9 opponent batters. The Tucson native added some offense to her cause going 2 for 3 with a home run and two RBI’s.

YC had four home runs in the game with McCray getting her second of the day. Macias was 3 for 3 with a home run and Sam Wilson had two hits including an out of the park bomb.

Head coach Lisa Parks commented, “The kids really hit the ball well today and our pitching staff was lights out.”

YC returns to the diamond on Valentine’s Day at Paradise Valley Community
College. The first pitch will be at 2:00 PM.
