Riders Pounce The Pumas

The top ranked Roughrider softball team won their tenth and eleventh straight games on Tuesday afternoon over Paradise Valley Community College (1-11, 1-9), 11-0 and 12-2. Yavapai improves to 18-3 overall and 7-1 in ACCAC action.

Mel Willadsen and Kat Macias combined the 2-hit shutout in the first game. Willadsen got the victory striking out six batters and Macias K’d two in two innings pitched.

Ashleigh Seipel was a perfect 2 for 2 from the plate with a double, a home run, 3 RBI’s and 2 runs scored. Alma Cortez and Taylor Riesgo each added 2 hits and Brittany McCray had one hit, a home run driving in three runs.

Estela Pinon got the victory in the late game allowing 1 hit and striking out seven batters in four innings pitched. Sarah Thompson threw the final two innings.

Cortez added three more hits on the day and scored three runs. Seipel had a double and an RBI and McCray hit her second home run on the day. Macias crushed a home run knocking in three runs.

Yavapai returns to the diamond on Saturday in Thatcher against fellow Division I foe Eastern Arizona College. The twinbill will start at 12:00 PM.
