Volleyball Splits First Day

The #20 ranked Roughrider volleyball team split a pair of matches Friday in the New Mexico Military Institute Invitational. Yavapai dropped their first match of the tourney and season to #19 ranked Seminole State College, 3-1 (24-26, 25-21, 23-25, 18-25). YC bounced back in the next match to spank the Rangers from Ranger College, 3-0 (25-13, 25-13, 25-10).

In the opening match LeAnna Lloyd had 14 kills and 2 blocks, Alexa Markel recorded 17 assists and 2 blocks, Jessica Durbin had 16 assists and 2 aces, Lauren Bevan added 12 kills and 9 digs and Chelsea Szretter had 17 digs.

Against Ranger, Erin Gaal had 10 kills, 3 aces and 8 digs, Lloyd add 9 more kills, Bevan hit 6 aces and Markel had 17 assists.

YC resumes tournament play on Saturday facing the host team at 10:30 AM and concluding with Odessa College in the nightcap. Yavapai will host their home opener on Tuesday, August 30th entertaining South Mountain Community College. The first serve will be at 7:00 PM in Walraven Gym on the campus of Yavapai College in Prescott.
