Lady Riders Top The Timberwolves

The Lady Rider basketball team shook off the snow to heat up the nets in Walraven Gym on Thursday afternoon with a 71-52 victory over the visiting Timberwolves from the University of Northern British Columbia. YC improves to 9-3 overall with a perfect 6-0 non-conference record.

Yavapai looked rusty after a two-week hiatus shooting 41% from the field including a dismal 29% from behind the three-point line. However, the Roughrider defense forced 27 opponent turnovers with 19 steals and 3 blocks. Bernadette Sanchez led the lady hoopsters with 16 points. She also led the team with 7 rebounds and tied for the lead in assists with 6. Ashley Wirtzberger shot 3 for 6 from beyond the arc en route to 15 points. Antoinette Miller chipped in 10 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists, 5 steals and 1 block.

YC returns to the hardwood on Monday, January 3rd at the Wells Fargo Classic in Yuma against #17 ranked Lincoln Land Community College, IL. On Tuesday, Waukesha Community College, WI will be the opponent and on Wednesday, Yavapai returns to conference play against #20 ranked Arizona Western College in Yuma.
