Lady Riders Outlast Cougars

The Yavapai College women’s basketball team won their fifth consecutive contest Saturday afternoon in Phoenix over South Mountain Community College, 75-67. The lady hoopsters overcame a 4-point defecit at halftime to improve their overall record to 6-2 and even their league mark at 2-2.

Antoinette Miller scored all 18 of her points in the second half to lead the Lady Riders in scoring. The Phoenix native also had 7 rebounds, 2 assists and 7 steals. Kayla Williams also had a strong second half to finish the game with a double-double scoring 17 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Ashley Wirtberger was 3 for 5 from the three-point line and a perfect 6 for 6 from the charity stripe for 15 points. Bernadette added 14 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists and 5 steals. Jennifer Kelley led the lady cagers with 7 assists.

Yavapai plays host to NJCAA DII #14 ranked Pima Community College on Wednesday, December 8th. Pima lost to Central Arizona College on Saturday, 76-72. The game will tip-off at 5:30 PM.
