Volleyball Finishes Fifth

The Roughrider volleyball team split their matches today to finish the Florida State University at Jacksonville Invitational with a 2-3 record and a fifth place finish.

In their first place of day, YC lost to #16 ranked Iowa Western Community College 3-0 (18-25, 30-32, 14-25). In their pool, Yavapai finished third putting them in the 5th/6th place match against Pensacola Community College. The lady spikers won the match, 3-1 (25-12, 20-25, 31-29, 25-22). Against Pensacola, Haley Shackelford had 24 kills, 15 digs and hit .417. Suzanne Morris added 11 kills, 1 block and hit an impressive .636. Natasha Ray had 10 kills, 2 blocks and 16 digs. Jessica Durbin and Rachel Lindley each had 22 assists a piece.

The Roughriders are now 20-12 overall and 8-5 in conference play. The twenty wins this season marks the first back-to-back 20 win season since the 1999 and 2000 season. Additionally, the victory gives Head Coach Matt Cohen 76 wins as the head coach at Yavapai College.

YC resumes ACCAC action on Wednesday, October 20th at South Mountain Community College. Earlier in the season, Yavapai beat the Cougars 3-0. The match will begin at 7:00 PM.
