Lady Riders Get First Victory

The Lady Rider basketball team scored their first victory of the 2009-10 season Friday afternoon in Yuma against #14 ranked Anoka-Ramsey Community College, 79-69.Yavapai improves to 1-4 on the young season and begins conference play Wednesday evening against Arizona Western College.

The Roughriders shot 57% from the field compared to 32% for the opponent. From the three-point line, YC shot 44% including 3 three-pointers from DeAndrea Adsitt (3/4). Lerrin Cook led the team in scoring with 22 points. She also had 5 assists and 4 steals. Kira DeMorales had a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds and led the team in blocks with 5. Adsitt and Julianne Forte` each chipped in 15 points.

YC returns to Yuma on Wednesday to face the Matadors (4-1) in the league opener. The last time that these two team met was in first round of last season’s NJCAA Region I play-offs. AWC won the overtime thriller 86-82. Tip-off will be at 5:30 PM. The conference home opener will be Saturday, November 21st against Phoenix College. Game time will be at 2:00 PM.
