The streak has been broken! The Roughrider basketball team snapped an eleven game losing skid Wednesday night against Scottsdale Community College, 70-66. Yavapai improves their overall record to 5-18 and 2-13 in ACCAC play. Scottsdale falls to 9-14 and 4-11.

Things looked bleak early on for Yavapai as the Artichokes took a 36-29 lead into halftime only to incite the Roughriders to more passionate play after intermission. The Roughrider defense held the opponent to 39% shooting from the field while the offense shot an outstanding 49%. Tight D and timely free throw shooting in the waning minutes of the game sealed the victory for the hoopsters.

Gilbert Morales led the Roughriders with 16 points and 7 rebounds. Mychal Martinez added 15 points and 8 rebounds. Daniel Duran scored 14 points, grabbed 8 rebounds and dished 3 assists. Jaron Kirk played all 40 minutes and scored 13 points, handed out 4 assists and snatched 3 steals.

Yavapai faces South Mountain Community College on Saturday in the Storm Center. In December, the Roughrider beat the Cougars on their home floor 65-62. Tip-off will be at 4:00 PM.
