Despite shooting a paltry 32% from the field, the Lady Rider basketball team opened the Snow College Invitational with a 56-44 victory over Northwest College, WY. YC beat these same Trappers in the second game of the season by a score of 66-57. Yavapai is now 4-2 overall and 1-1 in conference play.

Both teams struggled to score in the first half as Yavapai took a 22-16 lead into intermission. The lady hoopsters extended the lead to 10 points with 9 minutes remaining, however, Northwest had plenty of fight in them and tied the game with less than 4 minutes to go in regulation. Lerrin Cook hit a key three-pointer and was 4 for 4 from the free throw line in the waning minutes to secure the victory for Head Coach Brad Clifford’s team.

Cook led the team with 18 points and tied for the team lead with 6 rebounds. Bjonee Reaves came off the bench to knock in 11 points. Domonique Washington had 5 points, 6 rebounds and team high 4 assists. Julianne Forte` added 6 points, 6 rebounds, 2 steals and 1 blocked shot.

Yavapai plays the host team, Snow College, Saturday evening in the final game of the tournament. On Wednesday night, YC resumes conference play at Glendale Community College. Yavapai returns to the Storm Center on Saturday, December 6th hosting Scottsdale Community College with tip-off at 5:30 PM.
