Tuesday afternoon the Roughrider softball team swept a doubleheader from Scottsdale Community College, 8-0 and 16-4, to improve their overall record to 30-7 and 12-2 in conference action.

In a weekend full of softball, the Roughrider women’s team came away from the Phoenix College Spring Classic with a 7-1 overall record. Yavapai improves to 28-7 overall and resumes conference play on Tuesday, March 16th.

On Friday afternoon, the Roughrider soccer team opened the Phoenix College Spring Classic with victories over Illinois Central College (8-0) and Everett College, WA (7-0). YC is now 23-6 overall.

Due to inclement weather, the softball doubleheader between Yavapai College and Mott Community College scheduled for Thursday, March 11th has been canceled.

For her efforts last week, Chelsea Pineda was named the NJCAA Region 1 Division 1 Batter of the Week. The sophomore catcher was 5-6 (.833) in the first game of a doubleheader sweep over Gateway Community College. In the nightcap, she had 3 doubles, 1 home run, 4 RBI’s and 2 runs scored.

The Roughrider baseball and softball games scheduled for Tuesday, February 23rd have been rescheduled due to inclement weather. Softball has yet to determine a makeup date and baseball will play on Thursday, February 25th against Pima Community College at Roughrider Park.

Roughrider softball player Tatem Day has signed an NCAA National Letter Intent to play for Utah State University. She will enroll and be eligible for the Spring of 2010. Last season Day hit .415 with one home run and 19 runs batted in.

YC softball players Audrey Workman and Chelsea Pineda have signed NCAA National Letters of Intent for the 2010-11 seasons. Workman inked with Ball State University and Pineda with Coastal Carolina University. Both players were instrumental in the 2009 NJCAA Championship season.
