Roughrider Park 6

Roughrider Park

Roughrider Park sits tucked in the heart of the Yavapai College campus. Over the right field fence is on-campus student housing. Over left field is the site of the newly constructed tennis complex and Bill Valley Field, home of the Lady Rider’ softball program. The park is surrounded by over 1.5 miles of nature trails and has views of Thumb Butte and Granite Mountain. Less than two miles away is the historic downtown Prescott square, as well as vast shopping, restaurants and hotels.
Roughrider Park has been home to the Riders’ for more than 35 years. During this span the Roughrider baseball program has won 3 National Championships and seen 7 World Series qualifiers.
Roughrider Park has undergone dramatic improvements to make the home of the Riders’ the finest baseball facility in the ACCAC. Year in and year out, the home of the Riders’ has proven to be a very challenging environment for opposing clubs, with the Roughriders posting over a .700 winning percentage at home.
2007 saw the culmination of various fundraising efforts that helped supply Roughrider Park with its biggest improvements. These included: permanent seating behind home plate; a player clubhouse with umpire locker room, restrooms and concessions; 10 inning scoreboard; 50 foot net backstop from dugout to dugout that allows for fan safety as well as the luxury to be closer to game action; irrigation system; installed fence with privacy slats and cap; re-constructed visitor and home bullpens.

Improvements continued in 2009 with a newly sodded outfield surface. 2010 saw improvements to the home and visitor dugouts with the installation of new flooring. In 2012, a new press box was constructed along with a new AV system. This was followed in 2013 with new all-purpose flooring in the player’s clubhouse as well as a 22’ batters eye in center field.
A facelift was given to the outfield seating area in the summer of 2014, as well as a laser leveled infield surface. Construction will begin shortly on a roof over the existing hitting complex. This will include lighting, video software, an AV system, as well as increased storage.
Hopeful plans in the future to Roughrider Park will be the addition of chair back seating behind home plate as well as the asphalting of the lower parking area outside the field.
The Yavapai baseball offices are located on-campus in building 2 which has also seen extensive improvements in recent years including a top notch Athletic Training room and Strength and Conditioning facility.
The luxuries the baseball program enjoys are made possible through the support of Yavapai College, Alumni, Family and Friends of the program. We’d like to thank these individuals as a whole and we look forward to continued improvements on the field and off.
