Soccer Secures Home Field Advantage with 1-0 Victory

The Roughrider soccer team concluded the 2018 regular season with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Chandler-Gilbert Community College Saturday in Chandler. YC finishes the season with an overall record of 15-6 and an ACCAC mark of 14-6. Chandler-Gilbert falls to 10-9-1. Both teams qualify for post-season play. Yavapai will entertain Mesa Community College and Chandler-Gilbert plays at Arizona Western College to begin the playoffs.

YC scored the lone goal of the match in the 54th minute when Esteban Franco found the net on a helper from Jose Perez Flores, his 36th assist in his Yavapai career.

Goalkeeper Luke Frank recorded the Roughriders’ sixth shutout of the season. Frank got 2 saves on the day.

YC outshot the Coyotes 11-2 and had 4 corner kicks while the opponent only had 2.

The Green and Gold split a pair of games against Mesa Community College this season. YC beat the Thunderbirds, 2-1, in Mesa last month and Mesa beat the Roughriders, 2-1 in overtime in Prescott Valley on October 6th.

Tuesday’s playoff match will be played Ken Lindley Field on Tuesday, October 23rd beginning at 6:00 PM. The winner will advance to the NJCAA Region I Semi-Finals against Pima Community College on Thursday, October 25th in Tucson. The winner of that match advances to Region Championship Match at the site of the highest remaining seed.

Admissions Fees for the NJCAA Region I Playoff Match:

$5 for adults
$3 for children
Free for 6 and under

Passes will not be honored.
