Volleyball Earns 2 Wins on Day 1 of Dalton Overstreet Invitational

The Yavapai Volleyball squad improved to 7-1 on the season with 2 wins in Walraven Gym on Friday. The Roughriders only dropped 1 set on Day 1 of the Dalton Overstreet Invitational. In their first match of the tournament Yavapai knocked off a strong Utah State University – Eastern squad 3-1 (25-22, 22-25, 25-11, 25-18). In the nightcap Yavapai swept Colorado Northwestern CC (25-20, 25-13, 25-16)

Statistical leaders for the day included freshman setter Pilar Daugherty (46 assists), sophomore outside hitter Nynke de Vries (32 kills), sophomore libero Victoria McCarty (25 digs & 3 service aces), and freshman middle blocker Lacie Tenney (5 blocks). Another key contributor to the successful day was freshman setter Paola Ortiz who stepped in as the starting setter role against Colorado Northwestern and helped her team earn the win with 25 assist, 4 digs, and 1 service ace.

Yavapai will take the court again tomorrow in Day 2 of the Dalton Overstreet Invitational as they play Snow College (#13) at 11:00 am then wrap up the tournament with College of Southern Nevada at 4:00 pm.
