Roughriders Sweep Gila Monsters
The Roughrider baseball team concluded the 2018 season with a doubleheader sweep over the Gila Monsters from Eastern Arizona College Saturday afternoon at Roughrider Park, 14-9 and 12-4. Yavapai finished the season with a 28-27 overall record and 17-19 in ACCAC play. Eastern Arizona winds up with a 16-37 record and 6-30 in the conference standings.
The Gila Monsters out hit the Roughriders in the opener but YC plated more runs. The Roughriders scored in every inning en route to the victory. Darius Vines struggled in the opening frame but settled down to earn the victory.
Over Torres was 4 for 5 one double short of hitting for the cycle. Torres had 5 runs batted in. Tommy Sacco was 2 for 3 leading off the game with a solo home run. Dalton Daily was 2 for 4.
The Riders had to come from behind in the second game. YC was down 4-1 in the fifth inning and posted six runs in their half of the inning fueled by a Jesus Pulido grand slam.
Tommy Costello threw six innings to get the victory on the mound.
Carlos Viera had two home runs going 4 for 5. Torres was 3 for 5 and Trevor Edior and Pulido each had two hits.
