Roughriders Split with Bears

The Roughrider softball team split an ACCAC doubleheader Thursday afternoon with Phoenix College. YC dropped the first game 15-7 and took the second game, 6-1. Yavapai is now 39-10 overall and 31-7 in conference play. Phoenix is 35-8 on the year and 31-7 in the league standings.

Roughriders fell behind early and couldn’t come back in the opener. Jaydee Boursaw drove in five runs in the loss. Boursaw drove in runs on a home run in the third and a home run in the fifth her 24th and 25th of the season. Phoenix had 17 hits including 4 home runs compared to Yavapai’s 7 knocks.

In the second game, Kiana Spencer was stellar in circle pitching the complete game victory. Spencer only allowed two hits and struck out 4.

Offensively, Makayla Guerra, Neenah Pangilinan, Makea Kaluau and Mariah Kalamaras each had two hits. Pangilinan (8) and Kaluau (10) hit home runs.

Yavapai continues ACCAC play on Saturday, April 14th at Gateway Community College. YC swept a doubleheader from the Geckos last month, 9-0 and 17-5. Saturday’s twinbill begins at 12:00 PM.
