Yavapai Drops 2 at Home to Cochise

The Roughrider baseball team dropped an ACCAC doubleheader Thursday afternoon at Roughrider Park to fellow Division I nemesis Cochise College, 6-4 and 11-9. YC falls to 20-17 on the year and 9-9 in conference play. Cochise improves to 27-11 and 12-6.

In the opener, the Roughriders found themselves down, 3-0 after four innings of play. Yavapai cut into that deficit in the fifth inning with a single run, however, Cochise plated 3 runs in the sixth inning to extend the lead. YC attempted a comeback in the bottom of the seventh inning as they posted 3 runs. Unfortunately, time ran out on the Roughriders.

Tommy Sacco was 2 for 4 with a home run and 3 runs batted in. Gianni Tomasi and Matt Mendibles each had two hits.

In the second game, YC took an early three run lead only to give up 9 runs in the sixth inning. Again, Yavapai attempted a comeback in the final inning scoring 5 runs only to fall short.

Carlos Viera, Mendibles and Taylor Frost each had two hits.

Yavapai continues conference action on Saturday, March 31st as they travel to Mesa to play Gateway Community College at Gene Autrey Sports Complex. The twinbill will start at 12:00 PM.
