Yavapai Takes 2 from Canadien Club
On Wednesday afternoon, the Roughrider baseball team swept a non-conference doubleheader over Langley Blaze, 12-4 and 12-6. YC has now won 12 of their last 14 games. Yavapai now has an overall record of 18-13.
In the opener, Langley jumped out to an early lead scoring 2 runs in the opening frame. YC responded in the second inning with four runs only to have Langley tie the game with two runs in the third inning. YC answered with two more runs in their half of the inning and scored 1 run in the fourth, 4 in the fifth and 1 in the sixth to secure the lopsided victory.
Michael Cartwright earned his first victory of the year from the mound throwing five innings scattering 2 hits while striking out 4.
Roberto Cabrera was 4 for 4 with 2 runs scored and 3 runs batted in. Gunner Bundrick was 3 for 3 with 2 runs scored with 2 RBI’s. Cody Holtz and Over Torres each had two hits.
In the second game, the Roughrider hitters pounded out 13 hits including 8 for extra bases. Gianni Tomasi was 3 for 4 with a double and a triple. Eligha Lewis, Tommy Sacco and Torres each had two hits.
Marcus Christy was solid on the mound in his 5 innings of work. Christy allowed 3 hits and had 5 strikeouts.
The Roughriders return to conference action on Friday, March 23rd at Scottsdale Community College in a single nine-inning game beginning at 2:00 PM. On Saturday, March 24th Scottsdale makes the trip to Prescott for another nine-inning affair with the first pitch being thrown at 12:00 PM.
