Roughriders Earn 20th ACCAC Win with Sweep of Cougars
The Roughrider softball team swept their third consecutive doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Bill Vallely Field over the Cougars from South Mountain Community College, 15-0 and 9-4. YC is now 28-7 overall and 20-4 in ACCAC play. South Mountain falls to 7-28 on the year and 4-21 in the conference standings.
In the opener, Jaya Allen got her third victory of the week and second shutout of the week throwing 4 innings while allowing 2 hits and striking out 4.
The Roughrider Hit Women had 12 knocks 6 for extra bases. Jaydee Boursaw, Meredith Clark and Makayla Guerra each hit a home run. Birthday girl Neenah Pangilinan was 3 for 4 with a double, 1 run scored and 2 runs batted in. Shelby Hotchkiss was 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI’s and Boursaw and Clark were each 2 for 4.
South Mountain jumped out to an early lead in the second game plating 2 runs in the opening frame. However, the lead was short lived as the Riders scored 3 runs in their half of the first inning and 3 more runs in the second inning. Kiana Spencer threw four innings to get the victory from the circle.
The Roughriders again had double digit hits led by Brianna Griffiths going 3 for 4 with 2 runs scored and 2 runs batted in with a double and a home run. Guerra, Makea Kaluau and Mariah Kalamaras each had two hits.
Yavapai continues ACCAC play on Tuesday, March 20th at NJCAA Division II #7 ranked Phoenix College. The doubleheader will begin at 1:00 PM on the campus of Phoenix College in Phoenix.
