Yavapai Dominated Gateway

The Roughrider softball team is now 2-1 when playing in the rain. YC battled through the elements Thursday afternoon to sweep a conference doubleheader over the visiting Geckos from Gateway Community College, 17-5 and 9-0. Yavapai improves their overall record to 26-7 and 18-4 in ACCAC action.

Neenah Pangilinan was 3 for 4 with 3 runs batted in and three runs scored on a single, double and home run. Jaydee Boursaw was 2 for 4 with a home run. Makayla Guerra was 1 for 2 with 5 runs batted in and a home run.

Jaya Allen got the victory despite walking 9 batters. Allen allowed 3 hits and struck out 7.

In the second game, Santana Parra pitched a complete game for the victory on a one-hitter. She struck out 4 opponent batters.

Boursaw had the hot bat going 3 for 3 with 2 runs scored, 3 runs batted in on a double and home run, her second of the day.

Mariah Kalamaras was 2 for 3 with and RBI and a run scored.

Yavapai continues conference play on Saturday as they host South Mountain Community College. The Roughrider swept a doubleheader from the Cougars in Phoenix in January, 12-0 and 10-2. Saturday’s games will begin at 12:00 PM.
