Roughriders Outscore Saints 22-1 in Non-Conference Doubleheader Sweep

The Roughrider softball team swept a non-conference doubleheader Tuesday afternoon over the visiting Saints from Seward County Community College, 8-0 and 14-1. YC improves their overall record to 24-7 and Seward County falls to 15-15 on the year.

Freshman pitcher Jaya Allen was nearly perfect in the opener as she threw 5 innings striking out 13 of 15 batters while walking one for the victory. Allen now has an overall record of 11-3 and 134 strikeouts putting her 2nd in the ACCAC and 4th in the NJCAA.

The Roughrider bats were on fire knocking 12 hits, 7 for extra bases. Neenah Pangilinan was 3 for 3 with 3 runs scored. Brianna Griffiths was 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored and 3 runs batted in on a double and a home run. Makea Kaluau was 2 for 3 with a run scored and an RBI on a solo home run. Jaydee Boursaw was 1 for 2 with 2 runs batted in on a home run.

The bats didn’t cool down in the second game as the Riders knocked 11 hits, five for home runs. YC put this game away early with 11 runs in the first inning on two grand slams and a two-run shot. Meredith Clark left the yard for the first grand slam and Neenah Pangilinan followed that with a grand salami of her own. Boursaw followed that with a two-run homer. Pangilinan was 2 for 2 and Boursaw was 3 for 3 with two home runs.

Kiana Spencer (9-4) threw the complete game for the victory. The University of New Mexico bound left-hander scattered 4 hits while striking out 4 batters.

The Green and Gold resume ACCAC play on Thursday, March 15th against Gateway Community College in a makeup doubleheader from last month. The first pitch will be thrown at 12:00 PM at Bill Vallely Field in Prescott.
