Roughriders Outscore Coyotes 18-2 in Doubleheader
The Roughrider softball team swept an ACCAC doubleheader Saturday afternoon over the Coyotes from Chandler-Gilbert Community College, 6-0 and 12-2. Sophomore Jaydee Boursaw hit her eighth home run of the year giving her 40 for her career which sets the all-time Roughrider record for most home runs in a career. Yavapai improves to 19-6 overall and 13-3 in the ACCAC. Chandler-Gilbert falls to 6-10 on the year and in conference play.
In the first game, Jaya Allen dominated the circle throwing the complete game shutout while striking out 11 batters. The freshman right-hander has 105 strikeouts on the year.
The YC offense could only manage 1 run on 4 hits. In the 6th inning, Brianna Griffiths led the frame off with a solo home run, her 8th on the year. Guerra followed with a single and Boursaw knocked the history-making home run. YC added two more runs in the 7th inning to secure the victory.
Griffiths and Guerra each had two hits.
YC had 11 hits in the second game and 11 runs batted in led by Guerra and Katelyn Kubitschek with three hits each and 7 RBI’s between them. Mariah Kalamaras was 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored and 1 run knocked in.
Santana Parra got the victory from the slab throwing 4.1 innings, scattering 4 hits and striking out 1.
The Roughrider return to the friendly confines of Bill Vallely Park on Tuesday, March 6th hosting Scottsdale Community College. The doubleheader will begin at 12:00 PM.
