Yavapai Softball Keeps Mesa Scoreless in Double Header
The Roughrider softball team won their 11th consecutive game on Saturday in Mesa over the Thunderbirds from Mesa Community College, 11-0 and 3-0. During that winning streak, YC has pitched 9 shutouts. The Green and Gold has outscored their opponent in during the streak, 91-8. The Roughriders are now 16-3 on the year and 10-0 in ACCAC action. Mesa falls to 9-5 overall and 7-5 in conference play.
In the opener, YC scored 10 runs in the first two innings to cruise to the victory. The Yavapai bats had 12 hits including 6 for extra bases. Brianna Griffiths and Makea-Al Kaluau each had a home run.
Kaluau had three hits, 3 runs and 2 runs batted in. Griffiths, Katelyn Kubitschek, Makayla Guerra and Mariah Kalamaras each had two hits.
Jaya Allen got the victory in the run-rule shortened game. Allen pitched 4 innings allowing 1 hit while striking out 7. Santana Parra threw the final inning striking out 1.
The bats were quiet for the Roughriders in the second game. YC only managed 6 hits. YC did not get on the board until the 6th inning when they plated their only 3 runs. Jaydee Boursaw doubled home Griffiths and Guerra and Shelby Hotchkiss singled home Boursaw.
Kiana Spencer threw 5 strong innings scattering 4 hits and striking out two. Allen threw the final two innings to secure the victory.
Yavapai returns to the diamond on Tuesday, February 20th at the defending Region I Champions, Central Arizona College (10-7, 4-4). The twinbill begins at 1:00 PM.
