Softball Remains Undefeated in ACCAC Competition
The Roughrider softball team had a dominant performance Saturday in a doubleheader sweep over Pima Community College at Bill Valley Field. YC won the opener 8-3 and took the nightcap, 13-5. Yavapai improves to 12-4 overall and 6-0 in ACCAC play. Pima falls to 9-5 on the year and 2-4 in the conference standings.
In the opener, Jaya Allen struck out 15 Aztec batters and scattered 3 runs to lead the Roughrider to the 8-3 victory. The sophomore threw the complete game only allowing six hits and three base on balls.
Offensively, the Green and Gold pounded 10 hits, 6 for extra bases. Katelyn Kubitschek was 2 for 3 with 2 doubles. Makayla Guerra was 2 for 2 with 2 runs scored and a home run. Neenah Pangilinan was 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored. Mariah Kalamaras was 1 for 2 with a home run.
In the nightcap, the Roughriders hit 4 home runs in route to the run-rule shortened game. Jaydee Boursaw, Brianna Griffiths Kylie Brown and Guerra each left the yard. YC had 17 hits on the game. Kubitschek, Griffiths and Boursaw each had 3 hits. Boursaw now has 37 career home runs, two shy of tying the all-time record of 39 set by Andrea Sotelo.
In relief, Santana Parra was lights out in the circle to get the victory.
Yavapai continues conference play on Tuesday, February 13th at Glendale Community College (4-7, 2-2). The twinbill will begin at 1:00 PM.
