Yavapai Blanks Paradise Valley
The Roughrider softball team swept a conference doubleheader Tuesday afternoon over Paradise Valley Community College, 13-0 and 8-0. YC pitching has now thrown five consecutive shutouts. Yavapai improves their overall record to 10-3 and 4-0 in the ACCAC.
In the first game, YC had 13 runs, 13 hits and 13 RBI’s. Five Rider hitters had multiple hits and four Roughriders had multiple runs batted in. Katelyn Kubitscheck, Brianna Griffiths, Jaydee Boursaw, Makayla Guerra and Neenah Pangilinan had two hits apiece. Boursaw, Guerra, Makea-Al Kaluau and Jaya Allen had two runs batted in each.
Jaya Allen threw 3.1 innings in the run-rule shortened game to get the victory. The Washington native has now thrown 3 consecutive shutouts. Allen has 26 strikeouts in those three games. Today, Jaya had 9 K’s and 2 walks. Santana Parra threw the final 1.2 innings scattering 3 hits with 1 strikeout.
In the second game, YC hitters had another 13 hits including 7 for extra bases. Kubitschek, Boursaw, Guerra and Shelby Hotchkiss each had two hits. Boursaw had 4 RBI’s on two doubles.
Kiana Spencer threw the complete game shutout scattering four hits and striking out four batters.
The Roughriders will have their home opener on Saturday, February 10th as they entertain fellow Division I nemesis Pima Community College (9-3, 2-2). The Aztecs split a doubleheader with Mesa on Tuesday winning the opener, 8-0 and dropping the nightcap, 7-3. Saturday’s doubleheader will begin at 1:00 PM.
