Softball Improves to 6-3 Overall
The Roughrider softball team split a pair of games Friday afternoon at the Great Western Shootout in Yuma, Arizona. YC dropped the opener to College of Southern Idaho, 12-9 and Jaya Allen threw a no-hitter for a 9-0 victory over Trinidad State College in the nightcap. YC is now 6-3 overall on the young season.
In the opener, Yavapai opened up to an early 3-0 lead but through three innings the game was tied at 4. The opponents put four runs on the board in their half of the fourth and YC responded with 1 in the bottom of the innings. In the bottom of the 6th, the Roughriders took the lead posting 4 runs. Southern Idaho added four runs of their own in the top of the 7th and YC stranded 2 runners in the bottom half of the inning to conclude the game.
Jaydee Boursaw led the offense going 3 for 3 with 2 runs batted in and 2 runs scored knocking her third home run of the year.
Jaya Allen was stellar from the circle in the second game throwing a complete game no-hitter for the victory. Allen struck out a season high 10 batters and walked one.
Katelyn Kubitschek and Brianna Griffiths each had 3 hits and 3 runs scored. Boursaw and Makea-Al Kaluau had 2 hits each. Kaluau knocked in four runs and Boursaw had three RBI’s.
YC continues tournament action on Saturday facing Luna Community College at 10:00 AM and College of Southern Nevada at 12:30 PM.
