Roughriders Advance to National Semi-Final with 7-2 Win

Yavapai College defeated long-time traditional rival Mercer County Community College, 7-2, Wednesday afternoon in the second of two matches of group play in the 2017 National Championship Tournament. YC is now 23-2-3 on the year. The victory marks the 108th all-time post season victory for the Green and Gold and secures their 19th final four finish.

Yavapai and Mercer have met 10 previous times with 6 of those matches being played for the National Title. All previous meetings were played outside the state of Arizona.

YC advances to the National Semi-Final round with today’s victory. Yavapai will face the defending National Champions Tyler Junior College. Yavapai owns a 4-0-0 record against the Apaches facing them in 1991, 1995, 1996 and 2006. Tyler will be seeking their sixth national title and YC will be searching for their eighth crown and 14th national championship game appearance since 1990.

Friday’s match will begin at 3:00 PM at Mountain Valley Park in Prescott Valley.
