Volleyball Finishes the Season as District B Runner Up

Despite a valiant fight the Roughriders fell in a 5 set battle with Gila Monsters on Friday night in the District B Championship match. The final scores were 26-24, 21-25, 25-16, 21-25, 11-15. Yavapai took a 2 sets to 1 lead into the 4th set and a 10-5 advantage on the scoreboard but then the home crowd at Eastern Arizona really came alive and helped propel their team to a come from behind victory.

Sophomore right side hitter Kaytlin Yost and freshman outside hitter Nynke de Vries led the Roughriders with 15 kills each. Yost hit a solid .216. Defensively Yavapai was led by freshman libero Victoria McCarty who turned in an outstanding effort and collected 29 digs. Freshman setter Kanani Hiapo contributed 40 assists and 13 digs.

Yavapai finishes the 2017 season with an overall record of 15-13, a conference record of 8-5, and the District B Runner Up. 2017 marks the 3rd consecutive season that the Roughriders have advanced to the District Playoffs. In 2016 the team lost to Eastern Arizona in the semi-finals. In 2015 the team won the District Championship be defeating Seminole State College.
