Yavapai Defeats Gateway 8-0

Yavapai College defeated Gateway Community College 8-0 Thursday night in Phoenix to record their 12th conference victory and their 14th overall. Gateway falls to 4-13-0 on the year. Yavapai is now 550 wins over .500 with a 606-56 record. YC could lose every game until the year 2045 and still be above .500.

It was the tenth shutout of the season (358 all-time) for the Roughrider defense. It was a combined effort in goal with Justin Motzkus and Tyler Trump splitting the minutes.

The 2017 Roughriders are four goals away from reaching 100 for the season and exactly 2,700 all-time. The current squad are five league goals away from the all-time conference mark of 95 held by the 2014 Yavapai College soccer team. The 1993 Yavapai College soccer team continues to hold the national record of 134 goals in one season.

The Roughriders return to the friendly confines of Ken Lindley Field on Saturday, October 14th entertaining Mesa Community College. In their first meeting, YC beat the Thunderbirds, 8-0 in Mesa. Saturday’s match will begin at 6:00 PM.
