Roughriders Sweep Cougars 3-0
On Friday night Yavapai was able to improve on their league leading record with a 3-0 win over South Mountain Community College. The Roughriders are now 8-2 in the ACCAC and 14-9 overall. The set scores 25-16, 25-20, 25-21.
When asked head coach Zach Shaver stated “We have been working in practice to lower our attacking errors in order to improve our hitting percentage and it showed tonight as we hit .150 with 32 kills and 13 errors.”
Freshman setter Kanani Hiapo spread the sets around so that 8 different players had at least 1 kill as she finished with 29 assists. Hiapo also contributed a team high 8 digs. Offensively the team was led by sophomore outside hitter Jailynn Butler and sophomore right side hitter Kaytlin Yost who both had 7 kills each. Butler hit .148 and Yost .138. Both sophomore middle blockers were effective in their attacking. Baylie Stephens hit .300 with 3 kills and Bailey Anderson hit .263 with 6 kills. Stephens also contributed a team high 4 service aces.
Yavapai will look to continue their winning ways on Wednesday October 18th as they travel to Phoenix College for a 7:00 pm showdown.
Then the Roughriders will honor their 8 sophomores (pictured below) for their last regular season home match on Friday October 20th as they take on Eastern Arizona College. Following the match their will be a reception which is open to the public to celebrate the 8 sophomores. The event will take place in the Community Room of Building 19.
