Roughriders Sweep Thunderbirds 3-0

On Wednesday evening the Roughriders produced their first 3-0 sweep of an ACCAC opponent. The final scores were 25-19, 25-19, 25-21.

Both Yavapai outside hitters, freshman Nynke de Vries and sophomore Jailynn Butler had strong offensive outputs for the Roughriders in their home match against # 12 ranked Mesa CC. Nynke finished with a team high 18 kills and .222 hitting percentage and Jailynn added 11 kills with a strong hitting percentage of .273.

Several players added sparks at key moments including sophomore libero Hannah Semon who finished with 14 digs and 2 service aces. Sophomore right side hitter Madelynne McKeown played an important role in the set 3 victory with 2 kills (.333) and 2 blocks.

Freshman Kanani Hiapo and Victoria McCarty anchored the Roughriders with their solid play at the setter and libero positions respectively. Kanani finished with 37 assists and 8 digs while Victoria chipped in 9 digs and passed 2.12.

Yavapai improved to 3-1 in the ACCAC and will look for their 4th conference win on Friday as they travel to take on the Coyotes of Chandler-Gilbert CC. Overall Yavapai evened its overall record at 8-8.
