Volleyball Battles to a 5 Set Victory Over #17 Arizona Western College

The Roughriders traded wins in the first 4 sets with the Matadors of Arizona Western College on Friday night in Walraven Gym. Then as they started set 5 things did not look good for Yavapai as they fell behind 0-4. Then the Roughriders played their best volleyball of the long match and took control midway through the 5th set. The final scores were 25-17, 14-25, 27-25, 17-25, 15-9.

The Roughriders were led defensively by freshman libero Victoria McCarty who had a team high 20 digs and a passing average of 2.30. Freshman setter Kanani Hiapo came up big for the Roughriders with 40 assists, 10 digs, and 2 blocks including a solo block that turned the momentum in set 5 toward Yavapai. Offensively sophomore right side hitter Kaytlin Yost and freshman outside hitter Nynke de Vries both contributed a team high 14 kills each.
