Volleyball Narrowly Misses Going 2-0 on Saturday

Despite scoring more points than Utah State University-Eastern (114-104) Yavapai lost the match 2 sets to 3. Each of the 3 sets Yavapai lost was by 2 points but their 2 set wins were by a combined 16 points. The morning loss on day 2 of the newly named Dalton Overstreet Invitational did not dampen the effort of the Roughriders as they took on the Coyotes of Southern Nevada in the afternoon. Yavapai won the match in a sweep 3-0 (25-20, 25-17, 25-23).

On Saturday, strong offensive performances were turned in by freshman outside hitter Nynke de Vries (31 kills), sophomore outside hitter Jailynn Butler (18 kills), sophomore right side hitter Kaytlin Yost (16 kills). Freshman setter Kanani Hiapo totaled 85 assists in the 2 matches and freshman libero Victoria McCarty chipped in 33 digs.

After Saturday’s two matches the Roughriders are 5-4 overall and 1-0 in the ACCAC. Yavapai will return to action at the Star Initational in Twin Falls, ID on Friday as they take on nationally ranked Salt Lake CC (#5) at 10:00 am.
