Roughriders Swept Gila Monsters to End 2017 Season

The Roughrider baseball team swept a doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Roughrider Park over Eastern Arizona College, 9-0 and 9-2. The Roughriders needed the sweep for a chance to have a spot in the post-season playoffs. They gave themselves the chance however, they also needed Arizona Western College to lose a game on Saturday but they swept their opponent to earn the final playoff spot.

The Roughriders closed the season out scoring 18 runs on 23 hits while only allowing 9 hits in both games.

In the opener, Reza Aleaziz threw the complete game three-hit shutout striking out 1 and walking none.

RJ Cordeiro and Cory Wills led the offense with each collecting 2 hits including one home run a piece. Dallas Tessar was 2 for 3 with a run scored and 1 run batted in.

In the nightcap, Yavapai came from behind to earn the lopsided victory. The Gila Monsters took an early 1-0 lead but YC put 5 runs on the board in their half of the third inning and added a run in the 5th inning and 2 more in the sixth inning and one in the seventh.

Jake Kolterman got his 7th victory of the year throwing 6 innings scattering 5 hits.

Cory Wills and Dylan Enwiller each had 3 hits and RJ Cordeiro had two hits including his second home run of the day.

The Roughriders conclude the 2017 season with a 34-22 overall record and 20-16 in ACCAC play.
